Cormac Buchanan: A Rising Star in Moto3 talks with Street Smart
Meet Cormac Buchanan, an 18-year-old Southland motorcycle racer who's already making history. After a successful season overseas in 2024, in 2025 he’ll be the first New Zealander to compete full-time in the FIM Moto3 World Championship, a huge achievement that places him alongside the world’s best riders. We’re proud to have Cormac as one of our voices for Street Smart, helping to promote safe driving and smart choices on the road.
After a standout season in Europe, Cormac earned his spot with BOE Motorsports, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in his career. He’s the first Kiwi to make it to this level since the legendary Simon Crafar in 1999, and he's got his sights set on the ultimate goal: becoming the first New Zealander to be crowned MotoGP World Champion.
But it’s not just his racing skills that make Cormac stand out. As a young rider who’s worked hard to get to the top, Cormac has also just sat and passed his restricted driver’s licence meaning he’s well on his journey on four wheels as well. We’re stoked he’ll be able to share some of his driving experiences while he’s overseas next year.
Check out our chat with Cormac, where he shares his journey, his goals, and why having his driver’s licence and driving safely is so important to him.
